Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown Debate
Being a senior in high school and starting my applications to many of California's universities, I was very interests in Whitman and Brown's views regarding funding and tuition increases for public universities in California. I was somewhat disappointed in Brown's response to the question about whether or not he would roll back prices on fees and tuition. His answer seemed somewhat along the lines of that he cared about the university, but he cared about other causes more. I understand that on these tough times the government doesn't have a infinite budget to make public higher education more accessible, but I do feel like a higher education makes individuals more of contributors to society and would benefit the state in the long run. I was also very disappointed with Whitman's response. Hers was more like an infomercial and rather than answering the question, she seems to just repeat over and over that she wanted to "put Californians back to work". Overall, i was extremely unimpressed with both candidates responses.

I agree with you about Meg Whitmans responses. i was starting to find her responses annoying because she seemed like she was reading from a script and she wasnt answering the actual questions most of the time. she seemed very fake.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when people speak in front of cameras, they get stage fright. Political candidates should not be judged based on charisma or superficial aspects, but on his or her actual competency. In general, America's tend to rate their politicians on a very superficial basis. Just because Meg Whitman's responses seemes somewhat mechanical and rehearsed, she could have just been nervous and may not possess the talent of public speaking. However, neither did Brown apparently.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think whoever is elected should do all they can do decrease prices for college. Some schools tuition are ridiculously large amounts of money, and with the economy like this, not many people can afford college without help. i also do not like how both candidates are not straight forward in the debates, just answer the question!
ReplyDeleteI agree that college tuition should become more of a priority for the candidates seeing as though many of these schools are responsible for educating our future leaders. I was also unhappy with the fact that neither of the candidates gave a very straight forward response.
